Canadian Brass in Residency at University of Toronto
The Faculty of Music of the University of Toronto has formed a new relationship with Canadian Brass. The Brass gave a public concert October 31st to mark the beginning of this new residency, which featured the addition of three performance majors on stage with them for the playing of the Brahms’ Ballade.
At the start of the concert’s second half, Dean Don McLean pointed out that he has called on the Brass to come to the school to share their insights into the music business as well as their proven musical skills with the students beyond just brass. He suggested that the escalating demands on this generation of music students has only heightened the need for pragmatic new approaches to well known areas of study. For their part, the Brass have indicated their intention to become part of the school’s scholarly, musical and social fabric.
