Farewell note from Joe Burgstaller

Dear Friends, Fans and Colleagues:

Joe2006sAfter 7 1/2 years as a full-time member of Canadian Brass, I am moving on in my career! I leave with so many fond memories and wonderful experiences and am very proud of my time spent with the Brass and my contributions to their incredible legacy.  I am especially appreciative to have had the privilege of sharing the stage with Chuck, Gene and my other esteemed colleagues, and am honored to hold the third-longest tenure on trumpet after my childhood heroes Ronald Romm and Fred Mills! I am excited for the Brass’ audiences as they will continue to delight in the talent and virtuosity of Brandon Ridenour, who will continue the Brass’ fantastic trumpet tradition. And I happily remain a part of the Canadian Brass family, and a cheering fan forever as well! I wish all of you my very best with a very big hug,

Fondly, Joe

    Dear Joe -

I met you when you first joined the Brass – in New Jersey, when your family was in the audience and you and Ryan showed the world how to play each other’s trumpets! It was well worth the multiple hour drive then, and I have traveled to several other venues to enjoy the Canadian Brass’ music – as well as your talents. The best of luck as you embark on another new enterprise … and if you meet a trumpet player (in maybe the next couple of years) from New Hampshire – be sure to ask if he/she played in the Brass Bandits!! May all your notes be as sweet and true as I have remembered them from the concerts and CDs. God speed!

    Jim Hill

  5. Robert Deal says:

    Dear Joe:
The first time I met the Canadian Brass was about 1975 at Old Dominion University. As a tubist it was a thrill to meet Dallenbach and the “original” Canbrass. I’d never seen such relaxed professionals before! About 1983 I was producing a video for the Virginia Wesleyan College summer orchestra, the summer hope of the Tidewater Youth Orchestra. You were the star of the concert, when at about the 7th grade, you played first chair. I believe you played the famous trumpet solo in Lieutenant Kije. About seven years ago I saw you perform with CanBrass for the Virginia Arts Festival. I held my breath on each run, but there was no need to, you had it all well in hand. Congratulations! Bob
